Preventive Care

Preventive Care

Just like you, we want your dog to have as many happy, healthy years with you as possible. At Chateau Veterinary Hospital, we understand that your dog is a special member of your family, bringing happiness, comfort, and love—and our goal is to help you maintain that relationship through the best veterinary care. That includes helping you manage not only your canine friend’s physical needs, but his or her mental and emotional needs. As a Fear Free Certified hospital, we will use our skills, kindness and compassion to provide these services.

Annual Veterinary Exams

Our nose to tail (or tail to nose if that suits your pet better) exams will thoroughly evaluate general appearance, skin, lymph nodes and mucous membranes, as well as musculoskeletal, respiratory, nervous, circulatory, digestive and genital/urinary systems. If a problem is brewing, we can hopefully detect it early to improve the outcome.

We may also recommend preventative care blood work and/or urine testing to assess things we cannot see. Based on the information obtained, we will help you with a plan to keep your dog healthy and happy.

Vaccinations

Updated vaccinations are a highly effective way to prevent many common and potentially deadly diseases and infections like rabies, distemper, and parvovirus. While there are core vaccinations that we recommend for most dogs, our veterinarians will customize a vaccination plan for your pet based on health conditions, lifestyle, and age. Dental Care

Most dogs over age three have some signs of periodontal (dental) disease. Left untreated it can result in infection, inflammation, tooth decay and loss, and terrible pain. We offer comprehensive dental services including exams, dental X-rays, extractions and oral surgery.

Parasite Control

Fleas, ticks, worms – preventing them in the first place is much easier and ultimately less expensive than getting rid of them after they’ve infested your pet. We recommend monitoring your pet and having them screened for internal parasites regularly, and we offer a variety of alternatives for flea, tick, and heartworm prevention—all of which are an absolute year-round must for canines in our area.

Proper Nutrition

There’s so much confusion about what to feed dogs. Grain-free kibble? Home-cooked meals? Raw food diet? Proper nutrition is vitally important to your pet’s good health, and we can help you figure out what is best for your pet and your lifestyle.

Behavioral Evaluation

Changes in mood or behavior are often symptoms of underlying medical conditions. We can help identify the root cause and if there is not a medical reason for the behavior, assist you with training, medications and other solutions.

Skin and Coat Care

Grooming and washing are fundamental aspects of proper pet hygiene. Proper skin and hair care can help prevent things like matting, bacterial infections and more.

Exercise

Regular workouts support musculoskeletal and cardiovascular health in dogs of all ages, as well as improve their overall mental well-being.

Microchipping

A microchip is the surest way to give your pet a ticket home if he or she is lost. They are affordable, permanent and relatively painless to insert. Click here to read more about microchipping your pet.

Senior Pets

At Chateau Veterinary Hospital, we love elder pets! We also know that preventative care is even more significant for them. Dogs age much more rapidly than humans, so diseases and illness progress faster as well. We recommend twice-yearly exams and blood screenings/ lab work for seniors to help prolong and improve the quality of their life.

We want the best for your canine companions because we know how much they mean to you! If you have questions about our services or want to make an appointment, please give us a call at 504-467-6431.
